In
a city as culturally diverse as London, participatory approaches
offer a way to help all local people express their views about
their local needs, regardless of their language or background.
We are developing this website to support such development.
Our
Mission
The
network has four main aims:
- Promote
the benefits of participatory approaches to a wider audience.
- Be a
resource for participatory approaches practitioners.
- Support
participatory approaches work in London initiatives.
- Promote
high quality in the use of participatory approaches.
Participatory
Approaches (PA) are community-based ways of working through which
the views of local people can be heard, and by which local people
can be involved in decisions about their community. There
is an increasing need to involve communities in policy development
and implementation. Many local area initiatives and regeneration
schemes have begun to use PA and others would like to know more.
For some organisations this shift to actively involve local people
is challenging the way they carry out their business and the culture
within organisations. The network offers examples of good practice,
better understanding of the value of this approach and access to
people they can talk through their ideas with.
